Dear Friends,

It was good to see so many of you at the Founders' Day Service at the Cathedral on Monday. The songs, readings, and the gathering of us all honored 30 years service by trustees, faculty, staff and friends who created and sustain this school.

In the spirit of giving, I'll put Ginger Cobb's note about the Samaritan Ministry Food Drive right up top here. Please give! And we all hope your family enjoys a wonderful Thanksgiving this year.

Opera Lovers, 2nd and 3rd Graders

Some second and third graders have probably been humming arias from Bizet's Carmen as they've gone about their business lately -- their classes went to the Kennedy Center last week to hear Denyce Graves as Carmen, as part of their music class's study of opera. Teacher Jason Kline has provided these photographs for you to enjoy. I am jealous.

Thank you very much for your strong participation in our recent online strategic planning survey. Every trustee, almost every faculty and staff member, more than two hundred alumni, and almost two-thirds of our current families contributed their thoughts--bravo!

The strategic planning committee will spend the next month sorting and analyzing your answers. Thank you again for your time and wisdom, and stay tuned for further opportunities for input and discussion after winter vacation.

Faithfully, Robert

On the website

St. Andrew's chaplain, Luther Zeigler, has been publishing the homilies delivered in the weekly chapel services on the website. Find time to read them, because a picture both of chapel and of the people of St. Andrew's (see homilies) will emerge. Even if you don't get beyond the headlines, you'll perceive Assistant Head of School John Holden's positive take on life, religion teacher Troy Dahlke's humorous but questioning spirit, and LS Head Pat Talbert Smith's orientation as an educator. The breadth of St. Andrew's curriculum is visible in the appearance on the list of Rabbi Susan Bortnick, a guest speaker, who explained Yom Kippur by talking about the meaning of apology. Read "The Politics of the Kingdom" by the chaplain himself, challenged to preach on election day. His homily is a prayer for the nation--a prayer we might all carry with us.

There's also a new photo of US Fall Sports Award winners, by Ruth Faison. Go to winners. Just in case you don't know, the underlined words under the two photos are live links to the lists of winners.
